DCB is unique amongst its peers in that it brings together a complete cross section of musical talent, youth and experience, enthusiasm and maturity. Over the years the band has had a number of Musical Directors, most notably its first Musical Director and founder of the Band back in 1958, Joe Thwaites (pictured below), its Musical Director for almost thirty years Pat Dunleavy and its current Musical Director, Gavin Moloney.
Festivals and Tours
DCB also spreads its sound internationally. The Band toured Aarhus, Denmark(1998), Tuscany, Italy(2001), Todnauberg in the German Black Forest(2004). In 2005 the Band represented Ireland at the Anches d'Azur Band festival in La Croix Valmer on the French Riviera. Nearer to home the Band has also performed in the Ulster Hall Belfast, Wembley Arena in London and the Harrogate Conference Centre.
Annual Performances
At home, apart from a busy summer schedule when the band performs in a variety of venues around Dublin and traditional Christmas performances, the Band also undertakes a series of concerts during each year. Concerts are undertaken on a standalone basis, but also in conjunction with other bands, choirs and soloists. The Band has played in the annual RTE Proms concerts, Lunchtime Concerts, and has recorded several radio broadcasts. The Band also makes special appearances in the National Concert Hall for charity and gala concerts. The Band had the privilege of being conducted by the late Frederick Fennell on his visit to Ireland in 1999. The Band also helped to launch the well known American beer, Budweiser, to the Irish market by performing at the official launch.
